Police warn over increase in East Lancashire burglaries

Lancashire Police are warning residents to be on their guard after an increase in house burglaries in Clitheroe and Clayton-Le-Moors.  In the period 1st March – 25th March, Police recorded 13 offences in the area, compared with none in the same period last year.

Detective Inspector Eric Halford said ‘The offenders don’t seem to be targetting any particular type of property, as up to now they have stolen power tools, jewelery and computer equipment.’

In Clayton-Le-Moors, burglars have been targetting householder’s cars by stealing keys and then driving off in vehicles. DI Halford said that offenders are taking advantage of doors being left open, with car keys within easy access of the front door.  With this in mind, DI Halford said, ‘we would urge people to ensure their doors are locked, even when they are at home.’

The detective added, ‘We would also appeal for anyone who has been offered property for sale in the street, at their door or in public houses to also come forward.’
